A well-drilled crew rowed up to the start of the Round of 16 of the Women’s Uni IVs. Faced with strong opposition from the 1st Downing boat the crew lined up to start as the front boat, just before the motorway bridge. Slight confusion ensued as it became clear that for unknown reasons the finish line had been moved from where it was on previous days to a further 100m down the reach, past the bridge, instead of before. Undeterred a strong start had the boat moving and a strong settle had the boat powering away from Downing down first-post reach. Some tight corners through the gut and a gutsy power pushes had the boat up by half a length on Downing down plough reach. Turning onto the reach the crew was hit by a strong holding wind but keeping it together we powered on down. A gutsy finish sequence propelled us under the bridge but unfortunately it wasn’t quite enough to hold off the Downing crew who finished 3 seconds ahead.
